How to Start Working Out

When you consider the word exercising, what does it make you think? PE class or remind you of being young again, playing in the yard, or spending time with friends?

Now that time has passed and especially after the craziness of Covid, you are probably considering tackling the word “Excercise.” Still, when most people hear this word, it’s usually followed by an immense deep gut feeling, like the feeling you get when you think about going to your not-so-favorite job, like a pain. I get it! Most people are not motivated to go to the gym, and it’s completely understandable because it’s work. It requires us to invest our time into some not-very-friendly tasks. But what if we changed our perspectives on how we think of fitness? What if we thought about it in a positive light? Almost like looking at it as the responsibility we owe to ourselves. I think we would have a more positive feeling when we say “exercise,” or to dig a little deeper, let’s take a look at the benefits of exercising.

  1. Its positivity supports the microbiome.
    • It helps a healthy and active brain.
    • It slows down the aging process (WHO WOULDN’T LOVE THIS )
    • It boosts our mood and mental health
    • It gives us balanced energy levels during the day.
    • It helps give you better sleep
    • It reduces the risks of developing or severing diseases.

These are just some small areas of how good exercising is for your body. Here on this page, we only talk about positive ways to boost your self-worth and your self-confidence to help us become the best versions of ourselves, so the next time we talk about the word “exercise,” what if we look at it, not as a chore, but instead as a way to show love to our body and take care of ourselves. Forget that it makes us look great on the outside, but let us also think about how it makes us feel on the inside and how it helps our overall love for ourselves.  Now that we have that covered let’s look at the beginning steps of exercising. Now just like everything in life, sometimes we must take things slowly, in simple steps, and that’s what I recommend we do for starting an exercise program. First, you want to get a feel for it. Find out what exercises you like and dislike and what machines you like and dislike, and then start catering your programs based on what makes you happy and feel great about your actions.  Below I include some helpful links to some pages that offer beginner-friendly workouts. I’d like you to try them out and then leave a comment and let us know how you enjoyed your first attempt at the beginning of this beautiful exercise journey. INOTRA is a community serving others for a whole in-and-out transformation.

Here are some steps to get started:

    Start slowly & small.

DO NOT PRESSURE YOURSELF, and don’t compare your fitness goals to others. All of our bodies are different, and if you know that before you start your workout journey, it will be a smoother ride. Start slowly and small.

Make your goals small and achievable.

Assess your schedule and find the best time when you’re not concerned about other tasks. Then schedule at least ten or twenty minutes out of the day, dedicate those 10 to 20 minutes to yourself, and make yourself a better person. Next, look around your home and see if you can find some resistance. If you are on a budget and can’t afford to buy a brand new set of dumbbells, find water jugs, soda bottles, maybe your little kids’ toys, anything that adds resistance, and find a comfy spot within your home garage, or perhaps even your kitchen hahaha. If you can afford it and it’s within your budget, then you could also sign up for a gym membership, and at a gym, they will supply you with the necessary equipment you need to get started. From there, the most significant area we need to focus on is a famous word called consistency. We must have consistency if we’re going to achieve any results at all. It’s okay to fail, and it’s okay to get off course, and it’s okay to be sore and not want to go back to the gym, but we must stay consistent if we fall off our horse, we must get back on it. So now that you know, the word consistency, let’s keep that in the Forefront of her mind to achieve the best results possible.

Going back to the resistance, let’s make sure that we have the wait-friendly resistance for you; remember, there’s no comparison here it’s all about you and what you can manage to achieve your particular goals. Next, if you are a beginner and just getting started with working out, one way to make exercising sociably fun is to find a workout partner who can help support and encourage you. There will be many days when you feel like giving up, tired, and don’t want to continue the journey you started, and that’s where a good workout buddy or trainer comes into play. You must try to find the love for exercise within yourself and not rely on your outer counterpart for your fitness journey. Still, it’s important to have accountability and consistency, so if you are an individual who needs some help to stay on track, then I would recommend you revert to the above.

Make exercise fun. If we start something in life and don’t have joy or find some happiness, it is challenging for us to continue our journey because life is a journey. There must be joy from this, surrounded by positive energy and transformation from the inside out. We make it fun by tackling any obstacle we face; the fun part is challenging ourselves.  Easy right?

For those who are interested in having a fitness journey at the gym but are fearful of starting because you are afraid of how others will look at you or think that you are incompetent and don’t belong there, my suggestion is to get a cap and some earphones or Sunglasses if you have to end zone out those thoughts. Nobody is there to watch you, nobody to judge you, and if they are there to do those things, ignore them. The only reason you’re going to the gym is to better yourself and become a more vital individual everyone starts somewhere, and no one is at the place they are right now by teleporting there. We must have foundational blocks in place to get us where we want to, which applies to the gym rats you see in the gym, so don’t be fearful. Grab your credit card, sign up for that membership, and get started.

The following important factor is to track your progress. A great way to find out how you are progressing is by keeping some track of record to map your progress. I recommend using a couple of different software 1. Google word doc is an easy one to set up as long as you have a Gmail account. Then you can access your Google Drive and add all of your word documents to the drive, which then syncs to your mobile phone, or you can sign up for paid note journals from the app store or Android store Google Play Store or maybe your traditional and old-fashioned which is also great. Try to hit those numbers and continue trying to hit those numbers.

I will include helpful links to beginner-friendly workouts and healthy recipes to jump-start you on your fitness journey. Remember, this is a work in progress. It won’t be easy, but keep your mind right and know that you love yourself, are trying to better yourself, and are giving your body everything it needs to live a long and healthy life. To do that, we must do the difficult things we are not interested in. Stay tuned for more helpful tips for inner and outer body transformation from yours truly INOTRA.
